Hi Doug just working on one at the moment and repairing the filed out gatings quite a lot of wear on this one as the teeth on the back to are very worn on some of the levers

I had never seen one before, very nice. Am I correct that the combination could be changed by changing the relationship between the lever and the disc with the gate?

Hi BBE

Yes its just a case of opening the lock with the exsisting key (the discs being then separated from levers) the new precut Ratner key then inserted and locked thus moving the discs to their new positions As you probably know there are some modern locks with simular systems.
