Hi there, I’m bill and new to the forum. I will be receiving a Medeco mortice cylinder soon and would like some helpful tips on how to pick it if possible.

There are enough things out on the web about how to pick Medeco that I agree that is shouldn’t be discussed here. History of Medeco locks I would be happy to discuss and even the patent documents as the company only started in 1968 but the original lock was thought up back in the mid 1950s so they say.

After looking thru the Patent I have to say it is VERY different than what was produced later. Kinda reminds me of the Byron Phelps patent of the Unit lock in 1899. The lock he patent and the one that was made since were different enough to be a different lock even thou the patent still was in effect.

As with any High Security lock for a home or business I would suggest dealer that is local and established. So if you know of a dealer that has been there for say 5 years or more then I would say buy the lock. Support is VERY important. Medeco is just one brand I would suggest. Some others would be Abloy or ASSA V10.
