Sargent's Automatic Lock

I recently acquired one of these and I think Oldlock has one as well. Does anyone have any idea one the number of surviving samples of this or manufacturing dates by serial number? Mine is number 439. Anyone have records of where they were originally installed? Servicing instructions would be nice also, it’s a little sticky.

I would love to be proved wrong but I am fairly sure that no records exist.

If it’s sticky it would be well worth stipping and flushing all the parts to remove all the old grease which does become like a glue over time !

I will post a picture as soon as I can. Either today or tomorrow. What solution should I flush it with for cleaning?

Just a degreasing agent, even petrol will do. Don’t forget to clean it all of an lightly (very lightly) lube it afterwards !

OK, here are some pics. The lock is complete with punch proof dial and correct serial numbered back. All part serial numbers seem to match so far but I haven’t disassembeled it yet. Didn’t come with a change key but I probably have one somewhere. Does anyone know what change key number these use off the top of their head? Should I just clean the parts with alcohol? Any tips on lubrication. Types of grease or spray. I should also have a Peerless next week and when I get it I can post pic’s if anyone is interested.

Very nice indeed. Sorry no idea what the screw is for, mine (which is later) does not have it.

Alcohol will be ideal.
