I have seen some attractive old Chubb Escutcheons, such as the vertical chubb fish oval, or the coat-of-ams shape wider at the bottom, both of which slide upwards on a dovetailed backing plate. I even like the modern chromed round one, with a fish, although it wold look better in brass.
However I understand thet are generally taken from safes. I have an idea that I have seen the Crest-shaped one on the inside keyhole of an old Chubb Rimlock.
Is there a style of escutcheon that was used on domestic or commercial front doors? I like the idea of fitting one to my own house.
