I thought you may be interested in an unusual dual key operated safe lock. To be honest, I have owned it for many years and it was on show in my locksmiths shop until someone got fed up with dusting it and moved into the back of the workshop. We pulled it out today and I have quickly taken some photographs. They show the lock fitted to the outer door casing. The keys going through the door into the lock.
On the cap is the wording MARRS DES N. RED G. 15 AP L. 1840 No. 294 M 296
Which I translate to Marrs Design Registered 15 April 1840. Number 294 ??M296
Under the cap is the first lock which is a simple three lever mechanism which moves a blocking cover to clear the key hole to the main lock.
Once the first key has been used the main key can enter all the way and pull back the bolts to the door.
Does anyone know anything about this lock or it’s maker? Or can anyone point me to some research location please.
