You may look first into the Bramah lock patented in the UK in the late 1700’s. The idea is virtually the same, except with flat sliders as opposed to round pins. It is quite possible the Bramah was unknown to the later Chicago Lock Company. Although I have picked and made keys for many Ace locks back when I was doing general lock work, I never did any historical research of that company.
